Welsh 3000 Training Weekend 2 (Carneddau)/Snowdonia Hiking

17 Jun 2022 - 19 Jun 2022

Organiser's Description

Welcome to the payment page for our weekend 2 Training trip for the Welsh 3000's in Snowdonia!

We have booked the Glan Dwr Mountain Lodge in Capel Curig, it has space for 20 people. Check out the map for the exact location.

Capel Curig is perfectly positioned for exploring all of Snowdonia. If you take the road south from the village you will get to Pen y pass in under 15minutes, if you take the road west you get to Ogwen valley in 5! You can also get straight onto a few of the mountain paths directly from the village and Lynnau Mymbyr is close by as well if you fancied an evening or morning paddle.

Moel Siabod Cafe is in walking distance from the Lodge, as is a pub and a restuarant, with another pub a mile walk away.

Plas y brenin, the national mountain center is 300m away - be sure to check if they have something going on that might interest you. They sometimes have guest speakers and events.

For insurance reasons these trips are aimed at ESC members and for that reason they will have been emailed a discount code. If you are not a member and try to use the code your ticket will be invalidated by us and give me a headache so please don't! The discount code only works for one person at a time so if you want to pay for multiple people with a code just buy one ticket at a time. If you joined after that email went round please message a committee member for the code.

If you're not a member of the club you count as a prospective member for insurance reasons (ie are covered) for the first three months since you first did a club activity. If you've been coming on club trips for longer than that you'll need to join up to come. The link for that is here:

The breakdown of the costs is as follows:

2 nights ESC member - £30 (usual discount code)

2 nights NON member - £35

Make sure you add yourself to the Facebook event page to arrange car sharing. If you're not on facebook get in touch and I'll help sort you a lift. The process for car sharing is as follows; if you can offer a lift then post on the facebook event where you live and how many spaces you have, if you want a lift comment underneath that persons post untill the car is full. Costs are set by the driver and split between everyone in the car.

Activies for the weekend

Friday - Earliest arrival 18.00 there are a few pubs in walking distance for those early.

Saturday -Complete the first section of the Welsh 3000 walk (probably Carnedd) = Big day!

Saturday Night - Socialise and refuel at the accomodation.

Sunday - Self Choice.

Anyone that comes along can can do what ever they want, if you want to do something specific share it on the Facebook event page. This is a self sufficient trip so apart from the Saturday hike you will need to be self sufficient otherwise or agree ahead of time if someone is looking after you.

What you need to bring

Food and alcohol for the weekend, although you can top up easily enough if needed. There is no communal meal this weekend so make sure you have food for both nights, or make plans for eating at the pub.

Sleeping bag or Duvet for the bunkbeds , plus a towel.

Appropriate kit for hiking in Welsh mountains (If you're not 100% confident please reach out) Including appropriate footwear, that you've broken in, decent waterproofs and warm layers.

Any other gear you have that you need for the activities including a bike if your going biking (or find somewhere nearby to hire one).

Other things of note:

You will need to clean the accomodation Sunday morning before leaving the lodge. Exit bedrooms by 12.00 and accom by 14.00. Work together with everyone to do this, if you don't know what needs doing speak to the trip leader.

The lodge owners request that any outdoor gear be kept downstairs, this means rucksacks, boots, jackets and climbing gear ect.

There are not any qualified mountain leaders on this trip, you are choosing to come of your own volition to be around your peers.

Any questions please let us know! :)
