10 Oct 2021
10th Neil McCover Memorial Half Marathon - Sunday 10 October 2021
We are delighted to be able to hold the 10th running of this popular, scenic and friendly half marathon race. Organsied by Kirkintilloch Olympians with the support of Police Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council, it will take you through some of the scenic countryside and towns of East Dunbartonshire. The course is held on public roads and pavements and is undulating, but has recorded some very fast times and allowed many runners to set personal best times.
All runners will receive a special commemorative t-shirt.
The race starts at 9am on Sunday 10 October,
It is planned that registration will be held at Kirkintilloch Leisure Centre close to the town centre, with changing facilities available from c7.30am but this is subject to Covid-19 restrictions and will be advised nearer race day.
This year the race incorporates the SVHC half marathon championship race.
Please note that runners should aim to complete the course in under 2.5 hours; marshals may be withdrawn after that time.
The race is being held under UK Athletics rules and is a Scottish Athletics licensed event.
2020 Entry Transfers: all those runners who entered last year and asked to be transferred will automatically be entered into this year's race. A separate email will be sent to them.
Anniversary Race Series: this race also forms an event in the special anniversary race series and if you have entered the series there is NO NEED to enter the half marathon separately.
Entry Fees to Half Marathon:
SAL/UKA Registered £15, non-UKA/SAL registered £17 (includes £2 SAL levy).
PLEASE NOTE THERE ARE NO ENTRIES ON THE DAY and NO REFUNDS AVAILABLE IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE RACE.
The event is organised by Kirkintillloch Olympians and is a memorial race for Neil McCover. Neil was a competing athlete, club chair and junior coach at Kirkintilloch Olympians who was tragically killed in a cycling accident on 8 October 2010 whilst cycling with police colleagues. Neil was a keen long distance runner, competing in marathons, duathlons and triathlons; including the European Ironman Austria amongst his greatest achievements. He was a Superintendent in Strathclyde Police, involved latterly in police training and had been a leading member of the police athletics team. A considerable loss to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, through this event we hope to pay tribute to Neil's significant contribution to the club and athletics.
