Meedies running club 24 hour charity relay
03 Jul 2020
Welcome to The Meedies Running Club 24 Hour Charity Relay in memory of Scott Robertson (ROBBO) held at the scenic Lochore Meadows Country Park.
This is a flat trail run with each participant running a 5k loop of the Loch, or more if they choose, at any time within the 24 hr period. This is our 4th year holding this event which we use to raise funds for local charities or groups.
Scott sadly passed away suddenly on 1st January at the young age of 45, he always did his bit for charity so this is our chance to give something back.
The charities this year will be Fife Deaf Childrens Society and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf (Scottish Branch), charities close to Scott's family.
Starting at 7pm on Friday 3rd July, Scott's family will be 1st runners to take off clockwise round the Loch with no time limit. Meedies club runners then go out every 30 minutes and keep the relay going for 24hrs so anyone not familiar with the park can join them.
It's a very relaxed atmosphere and as this is an event to raise money for charity we also ask that runners bring along donations for our local food bank.
We have music, bbq, home baking, snacks, juice and water all provided by our great people at the club. There are facilities for camping, so bring a tent and camp out for the night which we encourage, there is also electric hook up for mobile homes, come along and enjoy a friendly atmosphere while we all share stories of runs and races we’ve done.
Participants must be 15 years old any younger must be accompanied by an adult and is the responsibility of the adult.
How it works is simple;- starting at 7pm on Friday 3rd July, runners in groups of no less than 2 people start their 5k loop, when they finish the next group goes and so on for 24 hrs. Once you have registered, you can turn up and run at any of the designated times during the 24 hr period. These starting times are approximate because each group runs at whatever speed they want. If you feel fit there is a parkrun on at the Loch on Saturday morning, and at the end we do a mass run to finish. We also don’t mind if runners do more than 1 loop as it’s a great route for training .
Most important it’s about raising funds for local groups and donations for foodbank, and having a relaxing run with no pressure.
Registration will take place when you choose to turn up and run in the 24 hour period. Please arrive in plenty of time and enjoy the day.
