Yoga and Movement for runners, developing a personal practice

'stilling the mind, moving the body'
This is a 6 session module designed to develop a yoga personal practice to support your running, no matter what standard of runner you are or wish to be. The dates of these sessions are Sunday 10am to 11:30pm. Venue the yoga station, plenty of parking available.
Dates are:-October 21st and 28th, November 4th, 11th and 25th, December 2nd.
If you cannot make these dates watch out for the drop in sessions during the weekday.
The main aims of the sessions are the following:-
- to introduce the idea of what a physical yoga practice is and how it can support your running and overall movement.
- to develop a meditation and breathing practice to support you in your daily life.
- to improve your mobility, agility and balance (no matter where you are), with a carefully selected and sequenced yoga asana.
- to give you the confidence to feel you can develop your own daily/weekly practice away from a studio
- to make you enjoy running without fear of injury and perhaps make you run a little quicker as well.
By the end of the 6 session module you will have enough grounding, notes and feedback to integrate a yoga practice into your every day lives. Numbers for this module will be low (12 max) I believe in giving as much as feedback as I can over the time. We will practice slowly, precisely and there will always be some discussion about running injuries and how yoga can 'bullet proof' your body against the common types of running related injuries.
I have been a running instructor for 10 years (with Chi Running) and a yoga practitioner for 20 years, culminating in a teaching qualification with Kridaka Yoga this year. I also hold a PE post graduate qualification in sports coaching and have coached most of my life. Runners come in all shapes and sizes, the fastest runners I have coached were a 15m 12" 5K female and a 1h 3 min half marathon male, both just failed to qualify for the Olympics. Needless to say I have coached all ages, abilities and interests. I have also worked closely with my good friend and teacher Mark Russell, podium finisher triathlete and outstanding yoga teacher who has worked with professional athletes for a number of years. Runners love workouts, this session is a work in. One session however will be running technique and include african skips, hops and drills plus incline work down at the local prom!
