Shimna Wheelers CC - Romanian Orphanage Cycle
07 Apr 18
ENTRY CENTRAL IS NOW CLOSED
ROMANIAN ORPHANAGE CYCLE
We are fundraising for an orphanange near Bucharest where children and adults with disabilities are cared for. The buildings and grounds are in need of extensive refurbishment so that the residents have a safe and comfortable home.A group of volunteer builders from the Co Down area are returning to Romania in May to complete the next stage of the refurbishments.
The route for this event is just 37 Miles.
Starting in the picturesque village of Bryansford then heading up the Hilltown Road into the beautiful Mourne Mountains. Just before Hilltown we will turn left along the Sandbank Road past the famous Santa's Cottage enjoying the panaramic views of the Mourne Mountains with Carlingford Lough on the horizon. As we roll downhill we will reach the village of Rostrevor where there will be a water stop. Off again, turning left past the Fairy Glen we will follow the Old Killowen Road where we will see Carlingford Lough in its full glory. Then we continue on the Newry Road until we take another left at the Tullyframe Road to begin our climb to Attical passing Sandy Brae and Cock's Mountain.
Up, up and away we go into the heart of the Mournes again via the Moyad Road reaching the summit and the fabulous Spelga Reservoir. From here our descent begins towards the Fofanny Road turning right for the home stretch back to Bryansford for well earned refreshments.
The event will be suitable for everyone from leisure cyclist to club racers. Sign on is at St Patrick's Church Hall, Bryansford from 8.30am; with wheels down at 10am.
