The Original and best Edinburgh Night Ride is back for the sixth year.
If you’ve never cycled through the night, on quiet roads, here is your chance to give it a try: the ride (approx. 60 miles/100 km) takes place around the summer solstice, with groups accompanied by experienced ride leaders. We’ll be making our way along a new mystery route through scenic East Lothian at an easy pace (~12mph rolling speed), with a rest stop and refreshments around half-way, before heading back into town to finish with breakfast.
Leith Cycle Co will again open from 22:00 for any last-minute needs and provide mechanical support during the ride. You can also book your bike in for discounted tune-up during the week before the ride (proof of registration required).
As always, we are keeping the details of the route under wraps - you will not be provided with a map in advance, as it's meant to be a bit of an adventure/mystery tour. It will be a big loop through East Lothian, taking in some new highlights while possibly retaining some of previous years' favourite bits. In case you are wondering how hard the route might be, it'll not be taking in any big hills, we are staying clear of the Lammermuir Hills, and it's not a competitive ride in any way.
In its first year, The Edinburgh Night Ride, the ride was described as a ‘magical experience’ despite the downpours, the second year we were told it was even better. In subsequent years’ feedback we were told:
— “Lived in Edinburgh all my 40+ years and never ventured out in the dark on the bike. Thank you for the experience.”
— “I was a little nervous in advance (thinking it would be full of racing snakes wanting to go flat out), but it was absolutely fantastic – very enjoyable and at a perfect pace.”
— “Found the attitude of the ride leaders and their assistants great. Very supportive and friendly. Was greatly impressed by the whole organisation of the ride. THANKS”
— “For me, it was definitely Long enough to be challenging, but with the right Speed to make it a thoroughly joyful experience. Absolutely loved it, many thanks to all leaders and organizers!”
Please note that this will not be a fast ride, if you are looking for a faster ride at night, we recommend the 100 mile Ride to the Sun which takes place Sat 23 June (starting from Carlisle).
