Scottish Sea Farms Crinan Puffer

The Scottish Sea Farms Crinan Puffer is an 8 mile point to point race on the banks of the historic Crinan Canal.
The race is held under UK Athletics Rules and is a scottishathletics Licensed Event
The race is organised by Mid Argyll Community Enterprises Limited (the not-for-profit community organisation which operates Mid Argyll Community Pool) and supported by Scottish Athletics.

The race will start in Crinan and finish in Ardrishaig. The course is generally flat and is run almost entirely off road by utilising the canal towpath. The course will be well marked and there will be marshals at various key points. There will be two water stations offering water on the course. The tow path will be open to the public during the race and we ask all competitors to be respectful of other users whilst running.
PARKING AND REGiSTRATION
Parking is available in the two public car parks situated on the shore side of the A83 in Ardrishaig providing a total of approximately 100 spaces. Marshals will be there to help direct traffic and then point you towards race registration in Ardrishaig Public Hall. If the car parks are full when you arrive the marshals will try to direct you towards nearby on street parking within the village of Ardrishaig itself. If parking on street, please do so in a responsible and considerate manner. Please do not park on the A83.
The race registration is at Ardrishaig Public Hall just opposite from the public car parks. Please arrive in good time to allow for parking and registration.
**This is a point to point race, there will be a free shuttle bus taking competitors from Ardrishaig to the start at Crinan, please indicate at the relevant section of the entry form whether you will require a place on the shuttle bus**
The shuttle bus will leave Ardrishaig Public Hall at 10:15am promptly. Please do not miss it, as we will have no other means of transporting competitors to the start line. Competitors on the bus will be dropped off approximately half a mile from the start. Competitors should be aware that they will be dropped off on the single track road into Crinan and that there will be other vehicles using this road. There is no bag facility on the bus. Please board the bus ready to race.
There is a car park at the start area in Crinan with around 40 spaces, therefore there is very limited for space for competitors to leave their cars at the start. Scottish Canals control the car park at the Crinan Basin where parking charges have now been introduced. Please be aware that parking tarriffs may be in operation on the race day. Please do think about lift sharing if you or family/friends are parking at the start to help ease the pressure for spaces. The lanes around Crinan are narrow and have little room for roadside parking.
The race will begin at 11am prompt. The start area in Crinan is narrow so we ask that slower runners and walkers stay near the back to ease congestion. Runners will head along the canal keeping it to their right at all times.
In accordance with SA Rules runners must not wear headphones during the race to enable them to hear traffic, other runners and directions from marshals especially where the course crosses roads that will be open to traffic. We hope that you understand the no headphones rule. Non-compliance of this rule will result in disqualification.
The finish line will be at Lock 4 where the towpath ends in Ardrishaig. Please be careful making your way from the finish line back to Ardrishaig Hall. Refreshments - 19th Argyll Scout Company will be laying on a spread for competitors at the finish in Ardrishaig Public Hall again this year. The Scouts are supporting race participants as part of their fundraising activities. We do hope that you will stay around after the race to make a donation and enjoy the refreshments provided by the 19th Argyll Scouts Company - please give generously.
Goody bags will be available in Ardrishaig Public Hall. Please ensure that you collect yours after you finish.
PRIZE GIVING AND RESULTS
Prize giving is planned for 1pm (or sooner if results are in). We don't have a chip timing system so we thank you for your patience while results are assembled but we ask that you do not disturb the race timings team during the race and immediately after. We will look to email the results and publish them on our website as soon as possible.
Unfortunately we are unable to give refunds for those competitors who withdraw prior to the race or who do not turn up on race day. Race places are non transferable. We will not be running a Waiting List at this years event. Please contact race admin if you can no longer attend to inform allocation of buses.
HELP RAISE FUNDS FOR MACPOOL
The Crinan Puffer is organsied to raise funds for Mid Argyll Community Swimming Pool (MACPool). The Community Pool is run on a not for profit basis by local charity Mid Argyll Community Enterprises Ltd (SCO20084). Help us to boost our fundraising targets by the 25th May 2018 and we will reimburse your entry fee. All we ask you to do once you have obtained a race place is to raise a minimum of £55 (before Gift Aid) in personal sponsorship through colleagues, family and friends. For runners achieving this target we will pay you back your entry fee minus the Scottish Athletics levy fee (if applicable).
