ACORN Clyde Stride Ultra Marathon 2021

24 Jul 2021

Organiser's Description

DO NOT ADD YOURSELF TO THE WAITING LIST UNLESS ADVISED BY THE RACE DIRECTOR. Entries are only open just now for our charity entrants. If you are interested in running for Sottish Autism, and can raise minimum £150, please email

The Clyde Stride 40 Mile Ultra Marathon was run for the first time in 2010. It was created especially for the Scottish Ultra Marathon Series and was the sixth race of the series.

The Stride provides the opportunity to race along one of Scotland’s most accessible pathways. It follows the course of the River Clyde from the centre of Glasgow through Hamilton, Strathclyde Park and Lanark. It passes the attractions of Bothwell Castle and woods, the David Livingstone Centre, Strathclyde Country Park, the Palace Grounds and Mausoleum at Hamilton, and the Barons Haugh Nature Reserve to end at the spectacular UNESCO World Heritage village of New Lanark.

What is it?

A 40-mile ultra-marathon along the stunning Clyde Walkway. The race starts near to Partick train station, and finishes at New Lanark

There is also a 4-person relay event. Teams can be male/female/non-binary/mixed but must contain 4 people. You may also want to include a driver.

When is it?

The 2021 event will be the 10th edition of the Clyde Stride Ultra Marathon. It will be run on 24th July 2021

How Do I Enter?

There are 100 open places. If we receive more demand, then the entries will be drawn at random in a ballot. There will be other entry options – competition wins, event partners, charity spots. Keep your eye on our social media for information regarding those.

There are 25 relay teams available – should demand require, this will also go to ballot. In keeping with the tradition of the Scottish Ultra scene, teams with boring names will likely be excluded from the ballot! You have been warned!

The entry system opens on 28th February at 8pm and will remain open for 7 days, closing at 12pm on 7th March. The ballot will be drawn after this date if it is required

How much is it?

Entry will be £30/£32 (affiliated/non). £5 of the entry fee will be donated to Scottish Autism.

No payment will be taken at the time of entry. All successful entries will be held on a waiting list until such time as we can guarantee the event will be allowed to proceed. Many of the necessary steps to organise the event are unable to be confirmed at this stage due to current restrictions.

We are opening the entries to ensure successful entrants have the required time to prepare and train for the event. An ultra-marathon is no small undertaking, and training should be taken seriously.

What is included?

Your entry fee includes a donation to Scottish Autism, chip timing, event finish photo (free to download), drop bags carried to the check points, first aid cover for the event and our amazing race team there to support and encourage you all day. There is also soup and roll for all runners at the finish line.

Optional extras at sign up include additional donation to Scottish Autism, plant a tree in the Scottish Highlands rewilding project, a technical or cotton t-shirt, a hoody, a buff or a medal. As part of Acorn Trails’ environmental commitment these items are not given out as standard reducing the amount of t-shirts, medal etc that go to waste, stuffed in a drawer etc. Click the link to read more about how ‘We Care

What is the route?

The Clyde Walkway is already clearly waymarked. We will add additional race signage where necessary to assist you on your way. As a simple guide, follow the river!

There has never been a definitive race route due to the number of various diversions put in place over the years. Below is a link to a GPX file which is the current proposed route for 2021. This will be tweaked as and where required before race day. We will publish a GPX file with the race brief before the event.
