Organiser's Description

The Chase Walk is a 38.2 mile competitive walk over and around Cannock Chase in Staffordshire, England. The walk is for teams of four to seven people, and takes place annually in March. It is organised by members of the Nationwide Scout Communications Team and friends originally from Sutton Coldfield District Scouts.

The main event is open to members of the Scout and Guide movements aged 14 upwards, entries can also be accepted from some other organisations, see FAQ for details.

An alternative event for Scouts aged 10½ to 14 is also held on the same day, sharing some resources with the main event. This is a 13 mile walk during daylight hours.

A competitive walk for teams of four to seven, starting and finishing at the Beaudesert Activity Center, and taking in some of the beautiful Cannock Chase. The event is open to members of the Scout Association and of other organisations with suitable insurance cover. The route is approximately 40 miles, mainly off the roads along paths and tracks. The walk will start from 06:00 and teams must complete the course by 01:00 the following morning. The minimum age for entry is 14 years on the day of the walk. This is a team event and although members of the team may retire, the remaining walkers must keep together as a team.

The entry fee of £15.00 per walker provides all campsite fees, snacks and drinks around the course and transport back to Beaudesert should you retire. For your safety we monitor your progress around the course using GPS tracking and reports from checkpoints. After the walk you will receive a badge and certificate, results are published on this website.

A walk for teams of four to eight taking place on the beautiful Cannock Chase. The route is approximately 13 miles off the roads along paths and tracks. The walk will start from 08.45, teams need to be at the start at least 30 minutes before their allocated start time. The start and finish is located at the Firing Range by Marquis Drive - Not Beaudesert!

The minimum age for entry is 10½ years on the day of the walk and the maximum age is 14. This is an event for teams of between 4 and 8 scouts, and although members of the team may retire, the remaining walkers must keep together as a team. Should a team fall below four walkers then they will be required to walk with another team. This will be the decision of the checkpoint staff. Teams should not be accompanied by adults.

The entry fee of £8.50 per walker provides snacks and drinks around the course and transport to the Scout finish should you retire. For your safety we monitor your progress around the course using GPS tracking and reports from checkpoints. Every starter will receive a badge and certificate.

This is a non-competitive walk, so there is no prize for the first team home or times published for the team. Each checkpoint has a cutoff time to ensure Scouts are not still walking during hours of darkness.
