GO Tri Grantham Aquathon #4
09 Sep 17
The Belvoir Tri Club GO Tri Aquathlon Series will take place at the Grantham Meres Leisure Centre in Grantham and is first and foremost aimed at newcomers to the sport but is open to all athletes of all abilities and levels of fitness. Due to there not being a need for a bike, this is a great and low cost event (just £5) to embark on your multisport calling.
The start time for all of the events is 19:00, with details on registration opening at 18:20. Registration will close at 18:40 at which point a race briefing will take place.
The senior race distance comprises of a swim of 200m, which is 8 lengths; followed by a 3km run around the Meres running track.
All ages are as of 31st December 2017. The distances for 12 years old and under are slightly shorter in length as can be seen in the table below.
Age Category Swim Run
Age 8: 50m 600m
Ages 9-10: 150m 1.5km
Ages 11-12: 200m 2km
Age 13+ 200m 3km
Adults: 200m 3km
These are low cost (£5), low key events which, although timed, will not include trophies for winners, instead we are looking to bring new participants into the sport. Of course, for those competing more than one event, they of course will be able to see their improvement from race to race. There is no minimum age for these events.
Event address: Grantham Meres, Trent Road, Grantham, Lincolnshire, NG31 7XQ. There is free ample parking on-site.
The event will be timed using a very simple manual system based on your start time and a number on your hand which will be checked on finishing the run.
For your next step in preparation for the event, why not come along to one of Belvoir Tri Club’s weekly training sessions. All details can be found on the website. If you have any questions about coming along, equipment, suitability etc. etc. please just pop us an email
The estimated swim time is just that, an estimation. If you are unsure or just don’t know put down 10:00 and we can adjust on the day if necessary – or why not come along to one of our Monday swims and we can time you for 2, 4 or 8 lengths and then you’ll know!
In terms of clothing, a trisuit will be most comfortable and can be picked up very cheaply if you search around; alternatively a regular swimming costume would be perfect for the swim, with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt left in “transition” with your running shoes.
