The Virtual One
31 Jul 2020
On your own or split the distance in a team.
Complete the marathon distance (26.2 miles) throughout July.
Run it or walk it. Send us proof. Earn the medal.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we’re unable to run our usual Wild One event. As an alternative, to support the charities and offer something fun, we’re running the Virtual One instead throughout July. The medal is different to the normal Wild One medal series. We aim to put the Wild One back on in 2021 where you can continue collecting them.
All profits will be split between two fantastic Worcester-based charities; New Hope and St. Richard’s Hospice. These charities need your help as much as ever. Due to the lockdown, they're unable to carry out much of their fundraising events.
New Hope work with families who have children with disabilities and complex health care needs. They provide daytime short break care, for children aged 6-19 years of age. St. Richard’s Hospice cares for adults with a serious progressive illness, improving their quality of life from diagnosis, during treatment and to their last days. We also support their loved ones.
You have the whole of July to complete the distance. You could run or walk 2.62 miles a day over 10 days, run a half marathon together with a friend (2 metres apart of course), team up with up to four others and run 5.24 miles each or head out and run 26.2 miles in one go. The choice is up to you.
It's a virtual event, so you can complete it wherever you like; on a treadmill, round the garden, along the canal or in a park. It's up to you. Just be mindful of others while you're completing your miles. Follow social distancing guidelines and be careful if your route involves road crossings.
A big part of the fun of the Wild One is the fancy dress. We encourage you to put on your fancy dress while completing your miles. Send us a photo so we can include it on the website. There'll be some spot prizes for best fancy dress.
In absence of our Wild Mile race, we're opening up the Virtual One to children aged 5 and above. Children can take part by completing the 26.2 miles over the month, covering the distance by walking, running, cycling, scooter, skates or a combination.
Children should be accompanied by an adult throughout the challenge and the younger they are, the less miles they should do in one session.
