Battle of Balloch Castle Cyclocross

10 Sep 2016

Organiser's Description

THE BATTLE OF BALLOCH CASTLE CX 2016.

ENTRIES OPEN @ 8pm 1st August and close @ 8pm 7th September

We can scarcely believe we're STILL allowed to give you quite possibly Scotland's most beautiful CX course. Take a walk around the park the views are stunning, visit the Slipway Cafe just 50yds from the sign on tent on the banks of the loch. Bring the family, spend a bit of time here and maybe visit Loch Lomond Shores for a bit of shopping as well as it's only next door.

It's a brand new modern style course on the banks of Loch Lomond at Balloch Castle Country Park. Last years debut found wide praise for the course, the main comment being just how fast it is! So, this year the course will be the same but we may add the "Castle assault loop" if ground conditions on the day allow. This will be an extra climb, off-camber and descent before the finish line just to give a wee extra twist and boost the lap time a little which for a relatively long 2.1km lap was still a tad short.

This is a TLi event, format will be an A race and B race both open to all categories age 16 and over, so all categories race together including Juniors (the Juniors only appear as a separate race category because you are entitled to a free TLi day licence so your price differs from the over 18 riders). If you'd prefer a very fast race enter the A race, if you'd rather it was only a fast race then enter the B race :-) Both races will be limited to 100 riders for safety reasons and the start sheet will be given a once over before we start for any obvious "ringers", you have been warned!!

RACE DAY TIMETABLE

Sign On Open to Riders - 11:00

Course Open for Practice - 11:45 - 12:45
B-Race: First Skirmish 13:00
A-Race: All out War 14:00
Prizegiving - 15:30

Entry

  • Online entry here only, when it's full it's full.

  • £15 for TLI MEMBERS and juniors (16-18years). THERE ARE NO RACES FOR U16's AT THIS EVENT, please don't ask as it's rather annoying and repetitive.

  • £5 extra TLI day licence for non members. Why not join TLi? it only costs £10 and there are at least 5 or 6 CX races plus RR, TT etc throughout the summer.

  • There is a small admin fee for use of entry central.

  • All of the money raised will go towards the event. GUCC prides itself on giving out proper prizes, unlike most other events. Big fields should = big prizes if the CX rule books are adhered to.

  • No entry on the day. Emailers/phone callers asking "can I get a start on the day" will be invited along to be lined up and shot with the starting pistol. Likewise the cut off is 8pm on 7th September, so get yourself entered on time!

Prizes

We will give cash prizes for the top three in each category in the A race as long as they are represented, Junior M/F, senior M/F, vet 40 M/F, vet 50 M/F. Your date of birth on the day will dictate your category.

In the B race we will give overall top three, ladies winner and some spot prizes.

Location and Course

Balloch castle country park, Moss O'Balloch car park, G83 8LQ. There are approx 150 car parking spaces here, it is a public car park so we cannot guarantee them ALL for us. However there are several smaller car parks within 200yds of this area and of course a mega car park at Loch Lomond Shores which is approx 4-5mins ride from here and well worth a visit with the family. We would encourage anyone who uses Ezee-ups etc for warming up to erect them on  the large grass area on the right as you enter to save car park spaces for car parking. We would also ask that you pay attention security wise to your equipment as it is a very public space, we cannot be held responsible for losses of unattended bikes etc.

For God sake....please,please,please respect the park and other users, especially if the grounds are wet on the day. If you go "off-piste" and trash the grass we may not be allowed back and believe us, you will want to come back. It's Ace....

Other stuff...

  • No helmet = no race.

  • Results will be available as soon as possible after the race, and on the SCX website.

  • The race is being run by a small group of volunteers for no profit, with a huge investment of time and energy. Comments and feedback are positively welcomed.

  • Anyone wishing to marshall (lunch will be provided) or display their company banners or flags for free (yes I said free!) please get in touch via email below, (almost) anything will be welcomed. We unfortunately cannot allow any sales or food/drink vendors on site due to licensing (this is another cost saving by us to boost the prize fund). We encourage you to visit the Slipway Cafe,  it is a non-profit making volunteer run catering training facility using local produce.

  • All dogs and small children to be kept on leads please. No exceptions! We just don't want any unfortunate mid race collisions.

The A Race : All Out War.

This is the fast one, where riders of all ages (16+) can put themselves up against the best in Scotland. We know where we are in our categories, but there are some surprises out there, guys and girls you wouldn't normally get to race against might give you the fright of your life. Only one way to find out who's best...........

The B Race : The first Skirmish.

This may be your first outing in the world of cyclocross, if so then welcome, your going to love it. However to give you some competition we will also have in this event some seasoned 'cross regulars who will put you through your paces. We're not totally cruel though, so the kamikaze, gung-ho guys and gals will be in the A Race. Please hang around after your ride to watch the Battle unfold and soak up the atmosphere.
