The Bell Rock Big Ride
Join Arbroath Rotaract Club and their big showcase event of the summer! A friendly, non-competive cycling sportive across the glorious Angus countryside.
Arbroath Rotaract Club is a sub-group of the Rotary; fundraising throughout the year for both local and international charities. This year they are organising an enjoyable cycling challenge over the scenic roads of Angus. All money raised from this summer event will go to the Tayside Oncology Ward (Ward 32) at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, a local hub for anyone diagnosed with cancer. Ward 32 is known for its tremendous facilities and friendly staff, helping make every visit as comfortable and easy as possible. With Maggies Centre only 100m away, there is ample support for patients and their families.
Participants have the option of the Bell Rock Big Ride, a lengthier and more challenging 85 mile route, or the Bell Rock Wee Ride, a shorter and more modest 40 mile cycle. The Wee Ride may also be more suited for those entering their first sportive or less confident in completing the longer ride in 8 hours or less. We ask for an entry fee of £25, with all the proceeds going to charity.
Both events start and finish at Gayfield Park, by the harbour in the historical town of Arbroath. The football stadium offers access to changing, toilet and refreshment facilities. Surrounding the stadium there is plenty car parking space.
From Arbroath, both routes cover miles of fertile farmland towards the cathedral city of Brechin. The longer route will then carry on through Glen Clova, the gateway to the Angus Glens, with a half way point at the Glen Clova Hotel. Both routes will then finish with a final climb over Carrot Hill, providing spectacular and rewarding views of the Angus hills from the summit.
Whatever route you choose you will be able to refuel at multiple refreshment stops. We will provide you with water, filled rolls, bananas and home baking to sustain you for the duration of the cycle.
We hope to make this a memorable ride for all participants, in a beautiful part of Scotland.
For each sign-up, the organiser pays the Service Fee of 4% (min 50p). You pay no surcharge
