The Beech Tree and Back (Run, Walk, Ride)
08 Nov 2020 - 18 Dec 2020
With yesterday's restrictions announcement we decided to make the Beech Tree and Back into a full virtual event.
Trying to support the Beech Tree Inn on the West Highland Way to feed their animals during their enforced shutdown, we created a virtual event, with a stipulation that you had to go to the Beech Tree - you chose your own start point.
After yesterday's announcement, the funds are even more required by the animals.
With this in mind, we'll allow you to make your start and finish point anywhere... Preferably your home...
Most people in the Glasgow area have heard of the West Highland Way. Many of you will have run, walked or ridden along parts of the route.
Not far from the start, Way users pass The Beech Tree Inn. A regular pit stop for folk along the route for a quick refreshment, a cake, a meal or even a nice cool beer on a hot summer day - they do exist.
The Beech Tree Inn is also famous for its animals. From goats and ponies to rabbits, guinea pigs and birds, the animals are firm favourites with patrons.
During the continued lockdown, the hospitality sector has seen some particular stringent restrictions. The Beech Tree Inn has, and always will put the welfare of their animals first. This, as any pet owner will surely be aware, is quite an expense! Winter beckons - and The Beech Tree Inn need your help in order to support the continued welfare of their animals in the place they consider their home.
To that end, we came up with The Beech Tree and Back.
The idea is very simple - each person chooses their own start point - and end point. All you need to do is head to The Beech Tree Inn....and Back!
For some this could be a nice mile walk, others a good run from Mugdock Visitor Centre, or a great bike ride from Glasgow and back. We're even happy if you want to book a table* at The Beech Tree Inn, and drive the family out for a beautiful Sunday dinner. Just go to The Beech Tree Inn and Back
*booking essential, in line with current guidance.
At least £5 from each entry will go to The Beech Tree Inn for the specific purpose of the welfare of their animals. Participants will all receive a completers buff - which in these times doubles as the perfect face covering! Buffs will be sent out on submission of proof of participation emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org - this can take the form of a link to your Garmin/Strava etc, or a photo of you at The Beech Tree Inn
Tshirts and hoodies are also optional extras, as is the famous Tee or Tree - which enables participants to select to plant a tree in TRBs rewilding grove in association with Trees for Life, helping to re-wild the Scottish Highlands (https://www.therunbible.com/tee-or-tree/)
We'd also like to encourage all entrants to make a purchase whilst at The Beech Tree Inn - they have outdoor seating available to book (not all covered so take a brolly!). There is also a takeaway service available. Check their website or their social media for the latest information.
Take part anywhere, anytime between 8th November and 18th December.
Entry costs £10/£12 (SA/EA discount) - £5 from each entry will go to The Beech Tree Inn for the welfare of their animals.
