Forth Canoe Club Summer Children's Courses 2019, Week 3, 22-26 July
22 Jul 2019 - 23 Jul 2019
What we will provide
BEGINNNERS courses are aimed at children with little or no experience of canoeing.
Forth Canoe Club will run a set of five 2 hour sessions aimed at introducing your child to canoeing and kayaking. Our qualified coaches will teach in small groups of 8 so that your child will get lots of opportunity to learn and have fun. Our sessions aim to introduce many of the basic concepts and we will use a lot of games to ensure the learning remains fun. At the end of the course we will assess your child and will award a certificate marking their level of achievement. Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning your child can come back and enjoy more fun sessions in the autumn term.
ADVANCED courses are aimed at children who can already paddle and who want to move on and develop their paddle strokes. Children should be able to choose, and put on, their own buoyancy aids; properly fit their boats; be able to get in and get out of a kayak unassisted and be able to paddle a minimum of 100m in a straight line. Our coaches will help your child develop their skills and at the end of the course we will assess your child and will award a certificate marking their level of achievement. Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning your child can come back and enjoy more fun sessions in the autumn term.
What is the cost?
- A week of sessions costs £75 this covers the cost of 5x2 hour sessions, junior membership of FCC and certificates at the end of the course.
How to find us
All courses will run from our boathouse, situated on the bank of the Union Canal at the southern end of Harrison Road. The nearest Postcode is Polwarth Church - EH11 1LU.
What your child should bring with them
We ask that children bring a bottle of water and a snack with them. In addition they will need suitable clothing for kayaking (a fleece, warm t-shirt/thermal, tracksuit trousers, cagoule/windproof, hat and towel) and a change of clothes and footwear in case they get wet. We encourage children to wear footwear in the kayaks, plimsolls are ideal.
Poppy Croal is the Club Coach for Forth Canoe Club. She will supervise the courses.
