ORBEA Selkirk MTB Marathon and Selkirk MTB Raid

14 May 17

Welcome to the entry pages for the ORBEA Selkirk Mountain Bike Marathon and Selkirk MTB Raid

ORBEA SELKIRK MTB MARATHON

The most popular (and challenging) mountain bike marathon course in the UK?. Yep, we think so, and loads of riders seem to agree - this course was vote 'best MTB Marathon' several times in the last few years.

This is an epic ride through the best trails the Scottish Borders has to offer.

- Choice of 3 single-loop courses (approx. 25km, 50km and 75km)
- Superb mix of flowy natural and trail centre singletrack, ancient drove roads, mahoosive climbs and grin-inducing descents.

ORBEA SELKIRK MTB RAID (with new stages for 2017!)

Enduro as you've never seen it before. Timed special stages?. Yep. Good ones as well - singletrack that's technical enough, fun and challenging, but not a crazy steep gnar-fest. Whether you're Enduro-curious or Rad to the Power of Sick, this is the race for you.

Here's the twist: we set you a target time for getting round the whole course. For every 5 minutes you are over the time, we add 5 seconds to your special stage total time. Cruel, huh?!. It means you've got to keep pushing a bit - a true RAID!.

Welcome to the entry pages for the ORBEA Selkirk Mountain Bike Marathon - 25km

Back by popular demand, we're really happy to offer the 25km 'mini-marathon' option again for 2017. It's perfect for families, less experienced riders, or anyone just wanting a great ride in some spectacular Borders countryside.

We're happy for riders from 12+ to the 25km Marathon, but from ages 12-16, you MUST be accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian) - maximum of 2 younger rider per adult please.

The course has been updated for 2017, and takes in Bowhill Estate, riverside trails and a challenging new climb of the Three Brethren, before a thrilling descent of the Corbie Linn back into Selkirk for tea and glory.

Brought to you again in 2017 by renowned course designer Peter Laing (Selkirk MTB Marathon - known previously as 'the Merida', and latterly the 'CRC', and designer of some of the world-famous '7 Stanes' trails amongst others) and Selkirk-based Durty Events (Celtman!. Craggy Island Triathlon, Durty Triathlon) , this is an epic ride through the best trails the Scottish Borders has to offer.

- Superb mix of flowy natural singletrack, ancient drove roads, challenging climbs and grin-inducing descents. Incredible views guaranteed!.

- Well stocked aid station

- Safety cover

- Free car parking, camping and showers at Selkirk Rugby Club (Fri and Sat night)

- 100% signed course

- Electronic Chip Timing (Sport Ident system)

- Event T-Shirt

Selkirk is easily accessed from Central Scotland, North East and North West England. It's very close to the world famous Glentress and Innerleithen Trail Centres, so why not come for a long weekend of superb riding. Maybe even also come and 'ride with the locals' on some of our lovely secret trails during a hangover ride on the Sunday!.

Come and enjoy some fantastic old trail favourites, plus new stuff that we've been out scouting.....

Welcome to the entry pages for the ORBEA Selkirk MTB RAID

Enduro as you've never seen it before!.

OK, we're not competing to be the gnarliest, raddest and baddest Enduro out there. Plenty of others are after that crown. But if you fancy fun, sweet, rideable, flowing trails to test yourself on, step right up.

Uncle Pete and the Selkirk trail fairies are hard at work planning and digging some cool stuff new for 2017. The RAID will run parallel to the 50K MTB Marathon for much of the route, but will split off for several special stages in order to reduce queues for stages and to give you more Enduro-style stuff to play on. Nice.

ORBEA Selkirk MTB Raid is a subtle combination of Enduro timed special stages (eyeballs out against your mates and the clock, if that's your bag, baby), and a great days' riding in the hills and forests of this spectacular corner of the country.

If you're Enduro-curious (always fancied a go, but a bit put off by the gnar), or an Enduro-dude up for some great riding (and a bit of pedalling - no moaning now!), this is the race for you.

Here's the twist.... there will be 3 brilliant timed Special Stages - all descents. Ride like the wind!. However, for every 5 minutes over a target time you are (4:30hrs - the average time for the 50km course last year), we add 5 seconds to your time for Special Stage 5. So, dawdle too long at the top of Stages 1 -3, and you risk adding time to your Stage 5 time. Ride too fast and you might be sub-optimal on Stages 1 - 3. Oooh! - tactical decisions!.

Our end of the Tweed Valley is relatively unknown, but has some incredible riding, including some classic descents.

Brought to you by renowned course designer Peter Laing (some of the world-famous '7 Stanes' trails amongst others) and Selkirk-based Durty Events (Celtman!. Craggy Island Triathlon, Aviemore Triathlon) , this is an epic ride through the best trails the Scottish Borders has to offer.

Courses

A fantastic mix of natural singletrack, twin-track forest roads, ancient drove roads, hand-made singletrack, and trail centre. You'll visit the valleys of the Rivers Tweed, Yarrow and Ettrick, and of course, the high points in between. So, expect lung and thigh busting climbs that are rewarded with epic grin-inducing descents.

Starting at 10am from Selkirk, you're on a 50km (approx) course with the following Special Stages*;

SS1 - Black Andrew
SS2 - Pernassie (new for 2017)
SS3 - Edge of the World + Buzzards Lair
SS4 - 5 seconds per 5 minutes over the 4:30hr target time for the whole course

- Superb mix of flowy natural singletrack, ancient drove roads, great climbs and grin-inducing descents. Incredible views guaranteed!.

- Well stocked aid stations

- Safety cover

- Free car parking, camping and showers at Selkirk Rugby Club (Fri and Sat night)

- 100% signed course

- Electronic Chip Timing (Sport Ident system)

- Event T-Shirt

We're making some tweaks to the course for 2017 - the 75K route will now also go over the great handmade singletrack of Pernassie Hill on Bowhill Estate (previously reserved for the 50K route only), and will skip the Caddon Bank descent in Traquair to go straight across the hill to the Mousetrap and Minch Moor climb.

CUT OFFS: Please note that for 2017 we’re again going impose cut off times – please see www.bordersbikefestival.com for details.
