Forth CC: Junior Autumn Term Mondays 6-7.30pm SPRINT Kayak YEAR 2's
20 Oct 16
You are signing up for Forth Canoe Club's Junior sessions for the autumn term 2016
Your sessions are Mondays 6-7.30pm, this is a SPRINT Kayak session for YEAR 2's
These sessions will start week commencing Monday 29th August and will end week ending Friday 21st October. This is an 8 week course at a cost of £40.
What we will provide
YEAR 1 PADDLER COURSES are designed for children who have paddled with us at our summer courses. We will aim to progress the learning using a range of boats and will use the Paddlepower awards to monitor your child's progression. These sessions are aimed at building on what your child has already learned and deepening their skills while at the same time ensuring they have a fun and enjoyable experience.
YEAR 2+ PADDLER COURSES are aimed at children who have already paddled with us for two or more of our term sessions. For these children we will aim to progress their learning through a range of craft and will start to introduce them to paddling away from the canal.
Again, will use the Paddlepower awards to monitor your child's progression. We are keen that our young paddlers continue to have fun as they develop their skills and so games will continue to be a big part of the learning experience.
What is the cost?
Each term costs £40 (ie £5 a session).
Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning your child can come back and enjoy paddling on club nights too.
For insurance purposes any paddler who comes to the club more than 3 times MUST become a club member this is why anyone who signs up for any course automatically becomes a member. FCC are not able to provide a discount for the paddlers who are already members.
Special Offer for Multiple Sessions
We want our paddlers to be encouraged to attend several sessions and we also want them to have the best kit available to paddle in.
We have decided to provide free or subsidised club kit to those children who sign up to multiple sessions. We will make available a range of paddling and gym kit - for example training tops / hats / buffs / and soft shells. All of our club kit is sold to members at cost price and we see this as an opportunity for your child to start to build up their specialist paddling gear at the same time as receiving coaching.
- How might this work?
If your child signs upto 3 sessions each week the total cost is 3x£40=£120.
We will in turn credit you with £8 for the second set of sessions and a further £16 for the third and any subsequent sets of sessions. In this example this would mean we will credit you with £24 of specialist club clothing.
How to find us
All courses will run from our boathouse, situated on the bank of the Union Canal at the southern end of Harrison Road. The nearest Postcode is Polwarth Church - EH11 1LU.
What your child should bring with them
We ask that children bring a bottle of water and a snack with them. In addition they will need suitable clothing for kayaking (a fleece, warm t-shirt/thermal, tracksuit trousers, cagoule/windproof, hat and towel) and a change of clothes and footwear in case they get wet. We encourage children to wear footwear in the kayaks, plimsolls are ideal.
Poppy Croal is the Club Coach for Forth Canoe Club. She will supervise the courses.

When to arrive
The coaches will be at the venue 15 minutes before the session is due to start but will be busy setting up boats for the session to begin promptly at the advertised time. Please ensure your child is changed and ready to start the session on time. Please be aware that the coaches cannot take responsibility for your child before the start time of the session.
Why do I have to fill in all these forms?
We appreciate it takes time to complete the forms but we have a requirement to provide our coaches with up to date information about the students they will be coaching - their needs, medical issues and emergency details - please work with us to give our coaches the information they need.

- Given different proficiency levels within this sprint class, an athlete(s) may be out of direct sight of the group coach for a period of time while performing a set task. The Coach will take steps to mitigate the risks presented by this. A non exhaustive and non prescriptive set of examples may include; assessing that the athlete is proficient enough to deal with the task alone or as part of a small group; asking athletes to pair up; asking athletes to carry a phone; ensuring athletes have buoyancy aids. This is neither a prescriptive nor mandatory list and the coach will make their own decisions. Parents or guardians are welcome to cycle alongside their athletes during the sessions if they wish.
Forth Canoe Club will keep a record of members’ names and addresses and contact details on a computer accessible to the Forth Canoe Club Committee. Your record may be inspected by contacting the Membership Secretary. We are affiliated to the SCA and will pass on your data for insurance and membership statistics use.
