Haddington Sprint Triathlon
The Haddington Sprint Triathlon is organised by East Lothian Triathlon Club and consists of a 750m swim, a 19km cycle and a 5km run. The triathlon will run from 9.00am until approximately 12.30pm on Sunday 25th August 2019
Details of the cycle and run routes are available at the following link http://eltcuk.com/?page_id=70
Marshal Appeal – please help!
Every year, we wonder whether we can continue to host the Haddington triathlon (now in its 26th year!) as we are a small club and this event is only able to take place thanks to the kind support of a large number of volunteers. It would be hugely appreciated if you know someone who you could bring along on the day to help marshal. If you do, we can be contacted at email@example.com. Any help would be most welcome and goody-bags will be provided as a small token of our thanks. Spectators tend to find it much more exciting being part of the event rather than just waiting at the finish line for their loved ones! We also offer a £100 donation to your chosen charity / club if you can provide 6 or more adult marshals, so please get in touch!
Entry will be via the EntryCentral website and a waiting list will commence once the race is full. Withdrawals will be replaced from those on the waiting list until 7 days before the event, thereafter there will be no movement, as this allows the swim heats to be drawn up. There will be no entry on the day so please do not turn up unless you have a confirmed space.
ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS: IMPORTANT
In the unlikely event that the Race Committee determine that conditions make it too dangerous to cycle, the race will become an Aquathon (Swim/Run). Similarly, in the unlikely event that the flooding of the River Tyne prevents a safe run route, the race will become a Duathlon (Swim/Cycle).
Registration is at the Aubigny Sports Centre, Haddington from 7.00am until 8.15am.
Please produce your current Triathlon Scotland affiliation card at registration or you will be required to pay the higher unlicensed fee.
The race briefing at 8.30am is compulsory for all competitors.
It is the responsibility of each competitor to be familiar in advance with the competition rules of Triathlon Scotland.
We will once again be using electronic timing and you will be provided with a chip at registration. It is your responsibility to wear the chip correctly. Chips must be returned at the end of the race. Competitors not returning their chip will be charged £25.
Before the event starts your bike must be placed in the transition area. Any clothing you require during the event should be left beside your bike.
There is no entry to the transition area after the race briefing starts. Transition will remain closed throughout the duration of the race. This means you will be unable to remove your bike/belongings after your race until all other competitors have completed their race. This rule is to ensure that all competitors get a fair race.
Please arrange to stay for the prize giving at 1.15pm.
There are prizes in the following categories:- Vintage - Super Vet - Veteran - Senior - Junior - Local.
The swim comprises 30 lengths of the 25m pool. There are seven heats of swimmers, with 6 swimmers per lane. Swimmers within each lane start at five second intervals - you will be given a hat colour and start order when you are poolside. To allow the event to run to time you must be able to swim 750 metres in a time of around 25 minutes or less.
Start time and heat lists are displayed at registration. Slower swimmers are in early heats with the fastest swimmers going off in the last heat. The first heat starts at 9.00am.
Heats and lanes are allocated according to the time predicted on your entry form. It is vital to the smooth running of the event and to be fair to others that you predict your swim time accurately, so please do a timed session before the event. To correct your swim time please email firstname.lastname@example.org no later than midnight on Sunday 18th August. Changes after this time cannot be taken into consideration as swim heats will have been finalised.
East Lothian Triathlon Club runs swim sessions on a Saturday 4.30-5.30pm at the Aubigny sports centre, Haddington. You are welcome to come along and time your swim or join us for swim training (These sessions are currently being held for a limited period in the Loch Centre in Tranent 3:30 – 4:30pm due to pool refurbishment. Please visit our Facebook for updates).
Overtaking is only permitted at the end of the lane. Rules will be enforced and penalties applied.
It is compulsory to wear a correctly adjusted cycle helmet.
The route is on public roads. Cyclists should take care at all times and must obey the Highway Code including traffic signs and police directions. Marshals at junctions can give directions only and cannot control / direct traffic.
No cycling in the transition area – mount after leaving - dismount before re-entering. Your bike must be re-racked correctly.
This is a non-drafting race, please refer to Triathlon Scotland rule book for current drafting rules. Helmets must be securely fastened and done up at all times before you take your bike from the rack and until you re-rack it. Rules will be enforced and penalties applied. Details of the cycle route are available at the following link http://eltcuk.com/?page_id=70
Runners must obey signals from police and marshals. Take care near roads. Be considerate to all other pedestrians.
The run will follow the same route as last year. It is the usual sprint distance of 5km and will follow a route through the countryside. The route is virtually all off road but will be a variety of surfaces - tarmac, grass, cinder track and (hopefully dry) forest track. Road shoes are usually sufficient for the whole run. Details of the route are available at the following link http://eltcuk.com/?page_id=70
There is limited parking near the Aubigny Sports Centre. Please do not park along the run and cycle routes. Instead use the car parks at Kings Meadow Primary School in Neilson Park Road or the council car park behind the corn exchange (also off Neilson Park Road). The town centre is also only 400 metres from Aubigny Centre, as you can walk through Neilson Park. Please do not use the car park opposite the Maitlandfield Hotel (junction of Sidegate and Mill Wynd) as this minimises the impact on the congregations of the local churches and therefore gives us a safer race (as church-goers are then not trying to park on the cycle route)
Changing and shower facilities are available free to competitors in the Aubigny Centre. Lockers require £1 deposit.
There is a café selling soup, coffee, sandwiches etc and a play park across the road in Neilson Park for those bringing younger children with them.
The swimming pool re-opens to the public from 12.30pm.
Results will be available at www.eltcuk.com as soon after the event as possible.
If you are unable to take part in the triathlon please let us know as soon as possible. Refunds will be provided at the race organisers' discretion up until 14 days before the event. Contact email@example.com.
ELTC would like to thank East Lothian Council, Police Scotland, Triathlon Scotland and all sponsors for making this event possible.
You are welcome to join ELTC and take part in our programme of training sessions prior to and after the event. Club information is available at www.eltcuk.com.
