Organiser's Description

Granite Man 2021

Owing to the on-going Covid-19 restrictions at time of launch in January '21 the 2021 event is limited to Guernsey Residents only, should travel restrictions ease and allow visitors to the island later in the year we will open to off-island visitors / competitors, provided we have capacity within the event.

Description
The Granite Man Sprint Triathlon will be held at Pembroke Bay, at the north end of Guernsey, and consists of a 750 metre open water swim, 20km bike and a 5km run. All distances are approximate but considerable effort will be made (using GPS equipment) to ensure that the distances on race day are as accurate as possible. The event will also incorporate a Sprint team relay aimed at Corporate and other composite teams.

Swim
The swim starts at 7:00am and will be an open sea swim in Pembroke Bay around marker buoys. We advise you to practice sea swimming before the event. Safety craft will be in position and lifeguards are instructed to remove any competitor from the water who they consider in danger for whatever reason.

Bike
One loop of a circuit from Pembroke Bay via St Sampson down the west coast of the island before returning to the north end of the island along the coast road. The road surfaces are good and, in the correct weather conditions, the bike course is fast. Marshals will be in place at key locations along the course.

Correct and safe navigation of the cycle course is the responsibility of the individual competitor.

Run
The run leaves transition and follows the coastal paths around the north end of the island. The run is mainly flat on a well-established coastal route. The course will be marked prior to the event.

Correct and safe navigation of the run course is the responsibility of the individual competitor.

Registration
There will be compulsory registration late afternoon on Friday 3rd September 2021 at St Sampson High School. It will not be possible to register or enter the event on event day.

Granite Kids We aim to be inclusive and all being well will put on a short Granite Kids event for children of all ages on Saturday 4th September.

Post race meal
A celebratory event will be held on the evening of Sunday 5th September 2021 to which all competitors and their families / friends are invited. There will be a charge for each attendee. Further information will be made available as details are finalised.

Refund / Deferral If you are unable to compete in the event in 2021 we will offer deferral to the next Granite Man event (likely 2023) or a refund only up to early June 2021 (we have had to order all event consumables with extra-long covid related lead times this year), after that time event fees will be paid, tee shirts and medals ordered and as a small club we cannot run the event at a loss.
