Welcome back to the Glenshee 9 hill race - one of the toughest races in the hill running calendar. In order to maintain a healthy number of entries, this race is run every other year - don't put off entering this year, as your next opportunity will not be until 2020.
It is named the Glenshee9 as you will visit the following nine Munro's in this order:-
- Creag Leacach
- Glas Maol
- Cairn of Claise
- Tom Buidhe
- Tolmount
- Carn an Tuirc
- Carn Aosda
- Carn a Gheoidh
- Cairnwell
Start/Finish at Glenshee Ski Centre. Route details can be found here:- www.stevenfallon.co.uk/glensheeroute.html
There is a checkpoint at the A93 Seann Spittal road crossing (GR NO 147 800) between Munro's 6 and 7. Food and /or drink can be stashed here.
This will also be a cut-off which MUST be reached within 3.5 hours of race start. If this point is reached after the cut-off runners will have to walk the 2km up the main road back to the ski centre.
Most of the races have provided fine weather but more typical Scottish summer weather would lead to challenging navigation, so participants should be self reliant with map and compass. Entrants are expected to have recent and relevant experience of similar long distance runs in mountainous terrain.
The route is not flagged and there are no water/feed stations provided.
You will be required to carry the following:-
- Full waterproof body cover including hood
- Map of the whole route which must be waterproof/in a weatherproof bag and extend at least 2km in all directions beyond the race route
- Compass
- Energy source (gel, jelly babies, choc bar etc)
- Whistle
- Hat and gloves (unless otherwise advised by race director)
Race entry will include a post race, light meal and drinks at the Glenshee cafe. The cafe will be open for pre-race refreshments.
