Dunbar 3K Run 4 Fun

14 Apr 18

Dunbar Running Club Juniors meets on Wednesday evenings in Dunbar to provide coaching & training in running, jumping & throws to children from all local schools. DRCJ is an inclusive, friendly club open to a broad range of ages & abilities.  We have a great team of junior leaders who develop & support the club. During the summer we try to utilise as much of the beautiful surrounding area as we can and regularly take our runners into the woods, and down to the local beaches to work on running technique and endurance. We also focus a lot on track work. When the winter nights roll in we head indoors and work on our condition and  fitness within the sports halls in Dunbar Grammar School. We are raising funds this year to pay for athletics equipment & to fund training more coaches. Our athletes take part in a variety of competitions each year including but not limited to the Forth Valley League, TEL Opens & the Borders Cross Country Series.

We are particularly keen to hear from any parents or past athletes who would be interested in getting involved as we currently have a waiting list. More coaches would mean we could accept more children whilst still maintaining the correct coach/athlete ratios.  Our fun run is to aimed at raising funds to cover the costs of coaching courses.

Starting from outside the hub of Hallhill we have devised a fun yet acheivable 3km Cross Country route suitable for all ages and abilities. This is a family focused route that will take you through the beautiful woods of the Dunbar Community Woodland, before bringing you back onto our running track at Hallhill for a 200m sprint down the finish straight to the finish line. Bring your buggies, bring your dogs, bring your grannies and come and enjoy some fresh air and exercise. Then stay and have a natter and cheer on the seniors finishing their Dunbar 10km race which is also being held that day.  Or why not run with the kids and then take your warmed up legs out onto the 10km route as well, making it a successful day for all!

We hope to inspire more of you to get involved in running, at whatever level. We are passionate about involving children of all abilities and interests into sport and running and hope to expose as many families as possible to the enjoyment that is trail running.

Anna Milne (Secretary of DRCJ)
