Organiser's Description

Last year's Dick Wedlock virtual event organised by Alex, raised nearly £350 for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Family Support Trust

We hoping to support them again this year with another Dick Wedlock race event.

Optimistic

We're going with an optimistic slant! We're planning on this being an actual, real life, physical event!

"No chance", "Crazy talk" - we can hear the comments already!

Entry comes with the big astrisk *terms and conditions apply!

*Should the event be unable to proceed in a physical manner, entries will automatically revert to a virtual event. There will be no refunds, or deferrals, transfers etc. You entry will become a virtual race entry if the physical race does not go ahead.

We realise there is only a small chance, but any chance is a chance eh?

So where and what?

We'll keep this simple - and hope that helps us ease it past the necessary folk.

A 5k route in Glasgow's Queens Park, starting at 7pm on Friday 28th May. If it goes virtual runs ust be completed over the weekend 28th-31st May on the same route within Queens Park.

The route is the same as the the 2020 Virtual event. Two and bit laps of the main path within the park, starting from the Migo Mile start point opposite Queens Park Bowling Club

It is 5k, very simple and easy to follow

How much is entry?

Entry is just £7/£5 (SA membership discount applies).

There will be event prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, Male/Female/Non-binary and some age category prizes to be confirmed. If the event is virtual each entrant will be given a £10 Migo Sport voucher

There is a Strava segment (https://www.strava.com/routes/27543867

The course will be marked (temporary paint and chalk) in the park, and marshalled with our team of Hi-Viz Heroes. If the event is virtual there will just be course markings.

The route heads anti-clockwise round the park on the 'main' path. Two complete loops, then on past the start after the second loop to complete the route at the foot of Balvicar Drive hill. We've measured this using GPS and it is 5km (ish! Obviously when folk run a racing line on the route it may come in slightly shorter than the GPS measurement, but everyone is being timed on the same route!)

We envisage, similar to September when there was brief opening for races, that there will be restrictions, potential wave starts. For that reason we ask for an estimated 5k time so we can seed people into rough groupings based on pace to create an element of race and competition within each wave.

You will appreciate there is a lot of "if" in this! Entries will close on May 1st or when we're full. If it is virtual, there will not be additional places offered. We figure 100 running around the park over a four day window allows for a safe and adequate amount of social distancing.

*All Virtual runs MUST adhere to current Government guidelines around social distancing and travel
