Organiser's Description

Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay

The Comrie Hills Relay is a 42k hill relay race with 2,110m of ascent, run in 4 stages. The highly scenic course starts and finishes in Comrie village, Perthshire and follows a route up and around the hills surrounding Glen Lednock.

The race is dedicated to the memory of our friend and club mate Simon who died aged 47 in October 2008 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. All proceeds from the race will be donated to the fight against this terrible disease.

For 2022 the race route and legs remain the same as in 2021, and we're hoping to get back to a more normal "pre-Covid" format.

Now open for entries!

Some arrangements are not yet finalised, but please assume the following will apply:

  • The race route and legs will be the same as 2021, although maybe with some minor changes because of fallen trees.
  • Leg 2 will be run by single runners, meaning a team will require only four runners.
  • A mixed team must include at least 2 female runners.
  • Race numbers and punch cards should be collected at registration from 0830 on the day.
  • Race start will be 1000 hrs, and mass starts are planned for Legs 3 and 4, as in previous years.
  • There will still be loads of kudos for all runners but also a return to prizes for category winners and fastest leg times.
  • Post-race barbeque and hot drinks will also be back. We will be offering vegetarian burgers but we have limited grilling space so unfortunately unable to accommodate every allergy and dietary requirement. If you have any intolerance or allergens we suggest you bring your own picnic food.
  • Toilets and (basic) showers are available in the pavilion at Laggan Park, as in previous years.
  • The road up Glen Lednock is a singletrack cul-de-sac with limited parking and to minimise the disruption to residents and other visitors we need you to take as few cars up the glen as possible. We ask participants to car-share wherever you can.
  • Entry costs £40 per team of 4 runners, all proceeds going to support research into pancreatic cancer.

Race Legs are:

  1. 11k, 527m ascent – route marked.
  2. 7k, 400m – unmarked.
  3. 12.6k, 712m – unmarked.
  4. 11k, 370m – marked.

Legs 2 and 3 cover rough mountain terrain, while Legs 1 and 4, although challenging, are closer to trail races.

Please make sure you read the Race Rules and Safety Guidance at http://www.strathearnharriers.org.uk/media/1752/swchr-2022-rules-and-guidance-for-entries-v4.pdf before entering, and then make sure that all runners in your team are aware of them before the race. The safety and well-being of runners and marshals are top priorities, and race participants must have footwear, clothing and equipment that are appropriate for the conditions.
