Colchester 100 mile Race Walk

08 Aug 2020

Organiser's Description

The Centurions hold an annual “100 miles in 24 hours” race walk. All races are held under Category ‘B’ race walking rules. This means that walkers must maintain contact with the ground in order to satisfy the judges. The race is judged and marshalled by officials of the Race Walking Association. Walkers who complete 100 miles within 24 hours will be eligible to become Centurions, a unique group of athletes open only to those who have achieved this remarkable feat.  The Centurions were formed in 1911 and to date 1209 have achieved it.

The 2020 race is being organised by the Centurions with the Colchester Harriers.  It  will be held over the weekend of Saturday 8th – Sunday 9th August 2020 on a course round Lower Castle Park (Colchester CO1 1UG) of approximately 2 miles.

The organisers of the Colchester 100 miles are committed to operating responsibly, abiding by guidance from Public Health England and mitigating risks to all walkers, helpers and supporters. Preparations for the race are continuing but in one month’s time the situation will be reviewed and a decision whether or not the race goes ahead will be made.  In the meantime we will continue to monitor and follow Public Health England’s advice.
