Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer Training
12th November 2020 6-9pm
Launched in spring 2019, this workshop replaces 'In Safe Hands 1 & 2'. The workshop is suitable for individuals responsible for leading their club or organisation in the wellbeing and protection of children and young people. Learners will have the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills to manage concerns through the use of interactive case studies and group work.
Suitable for: Child Wellbeing and Protection Officers or those in a similar role who are aged 18+ yrs.
Prerequisites: Learners must have completed both modules of the Child Wellbeing & Protecting Children in Sport (CWPS) or the older Safeguarding & Protecting Children course.
This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to further develop skills in fulfilling their role as Child Protection Officer. It will also provide the opportunity for Child Protection Officers to explore, in more detail, the type of wellbeing and protection concerns that may arise for children and young people within, or outwith, the club environment and how to respond effectively.
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Confidently assess the suitability of an individual to work with children and young people.
- Understand legal responsibilities relating to PVG checks or referrals to Disclosure Scotland and identify who is responsible for this in their setting.
- Respond effectively to wellbeing and protection concerns that may arise in or out-with the club environment.
- Recognise ways in which club culture influences the wellbeing and protection of children and identify methods for effecting cultural change in this important area.
On completion of the course you will receive a Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer Training certificate via e-mail.

What is a virtual classroom?
A virtual classroom is an online learning environment, which is interactive and you can access it from the comfort of your own home. You can see and talk live to the course tutors, other participants, ask questions and view slides/video content. The course will be delivered in the virtual classroom in an interactive style; similar in feel to attending a face to face workshop. The tutors will lead you through the learning outcomes, providing information, facilitating discussions for the whole group and managing small breakout groups.
How does it work?
You will need access to a computer (desktop/laptop) or a tablet and a good internet connection; some smartphones can also connect. Once you register for the course, you will receive an email with joining instructions that contain a web-link that you click; which will allow you to enter the virtual classroom and enjoy the course.
On completion of the course, you will receive a Child Wellbeing & Protection Officer Training certificate via email.
