a_Forth Canoe Club: 1* Kayak Adult Course - 9th May 2018

09 May 18

You are signing up for Forth Canoe Club's 1* course on will start Wednesday 9th May and will finish 6th June between 6.30-8.30pm. This is a 1 star course designed for over 15's.  This is a 5 week course at a cost of £60.

1 and 2 star awards encourage paddlers to experience the various types of paddlesport available. Paddlers then 'specialise' in particular disciplines from the 3 Star Award onwards. The focus of the 1, 2 and 3 star awards is developing personal skills and gaining independence, while the 4 star and 5 star awards are leadership awards which enable paddlers to lead groups in appropriate conditions.

1* Paddle Courses - The British Canoeing 1 Star is a stepping-stone to becoming a paddler. Designed as a basic award, the 1 Star is the level people would typically reach after an introductory course of 6 hours quality water time. This will allow you to come and take boats from the boat house whenever you wish and enjoy unsupervised paddling at the club.

Candidates must be water confident, and ideally should be able to swim (this is desirable but not essential).  If candidates are under 14 the Paddlepower (Go Canoeing/Skills Building/Paddlepower) program may be more appropriate.

You can find out more about the award by looking at the Syllabus, Training Notes and the Assessors guidelines on this website:

What is the cost?

Each term costs £60 (this covers your 4 sessions and assessment session).

Your course fees cover the costs of the certification and also cover the cost of membership of Forth Canoe Club, meaning you can come back and enjoy paddling on club nights too.

For insurance purposes any paddler who comes to the club more than 3 times MUST become a club member this is why anyone who signs up for any course automatically becomes a member. FCC are not able to provide a discount for the paddlers who are already members.
