20 Jul 19

You won't have to be fast, you will need to be tough.
This is a REALLY extreme, roughly iron distance triathlon. It has the highest xtri finish that we know of and is likely to have the greatest total ascent. It should NOT be underestimated. The majority of the run is off road.
If you have not completed another xtri, you will probably find it extremely hard.
If you have completed another xtri, you will probably find it extremely hard.
Regardless of what events you have done, you will probably find it extremely hard.
We strongly suggest everyone takes sign-up insurance:
- Death, injury, or illness happening to you, or a member of your immediate family.
- Burglary or fire at your residence in the 48 hours immediately before the booked event.
- Adverse weather including snow, frost, fog or storm where the Police or Government have issued travel warnings.
- The mechanical breakdown, accident, fire or theft en route of a private vehicle taking you to the booked event.
- You being summoned to appear at court proceedings as a witness which you were unaware of at the time of booking.
- You being relocated for work more than 100 miles from the booked event which you were unaware of at the time of booking."
If you are injured or ill you really don't want to tackle a race this demanding. If you decide not to take the insurance, there are no refunds, transfers or deferals.
As with most Xtreme Triathlons, there are no aid stations on the bike course and limited aid on the run course. If you think you can complete this mission solo, we ask you to email email@example.com so we can discuss your experience. Otherwise you will need backup to supply you with food, drink and to take care of equipment. Maximum 1 vehicle per competitor, all rules of the road must be followed, NO close quarters following infront, by the side or behind competitor, you must park responsibly with all 4 wheels off the road and no aid can be given from within a vehicle regardless of if it is moving or stationary. We have seen a lot of dangerous behaviour from support crew at Xtreme Triathlons, if your crew breaks the rules or causes any dangerous situations you will be disqualified. It is your responsibility to make sure they know this.
Swim: Eibsee, Germany. We can all but guarantee it will be a wetsuit swim but we do not expect the water to be extremely cold. However, you should be prepared for a cold swim with additional kit such as thermal rash vest, neoprene cap, boots and gloves. Gloves can only be worn if we deem the temperature to be exceptionally low, they must not be webbed.
Bike: With around 5500m of acsent, we suggest a road bike rather than a TT bike, low gears and good brakes. There are 7 main climbs, including 3 mountain passes and consist of 1 HC climb, two 1st category climbs, three 2nd catergory climbs and one 3rd category climb. Climbs are generally long and fairly steady. The first is straight out of T1, a relatively short but tough climb through the foothills of the tallest mountain in Germany, Zugspitze. The final 3 climbs to T2 are seperated by 2 short flat/ slightly down sections which will give minimal recovery and as it is at the end of the bike, you will probably find it extremely hard. There will be 2 "no support" sections, the first part through Germany and the final climb to the reservoir above Kuhtai.
Run: The majority of the run is offroad with some technical sections especially early on and takes in around 3000m of ascent across 3 main climbs. You will need to carry a pack with safety kit, torch, spare batteries or a second torch, food and drink for the whole run. Finishing at over 3000m above sea level and (probably) running a good portion of the course in the dark, this is absolutely essential. Included in the kit list is a credit/debit card or cash.
