'King of the Mountains, The Robert Millar Cycle Sportive Tweet
Robert Millar is the greatest Grand Tour rider ever to come out of The British Isles. Fourth place & King of the Mountains winner in Le Tour De France in 1984, 2nd in the Giro D'Italia in 1987, twice second in the Vuelta in 1985 and 86, 2nd in Le Tour de L'Avenir in 1982. His record is unsurpassed by any other British riders. Born and raised in Glasgow and a member of the Glasgow Wheelers, Robert Millar trained extensivley on the roads around Glasgow and was a regular over the route of the event now bearing his name, King of The Mountains -The Robert Millar Sportive. The event celebrates much of what Robert Millar was famous for, the challenge of climbing and negotiates a number of well known climbs including the feared Tak ma Doon road, the Top of The World and the Crow Road. With two routes, a 95 mile and a 46 mile option this event will challenge all riders and looks set to become a sportive classic,a fitting tribute to Scotland's own King of The Mountains and still the only British cyclist to win the coveted Polka Dot jersey. Participating in the Robert Millar Sportive will not only challenge you but will help fund a development programme for a new generation of promising young cyclists via Glasgow Wheelers CC & The Braveheart Fund.
