This main car-park will be open from 6.00am until 7.40am on race day and then closed until the last cyclist has returned for the safety of competitors. There will be a £1 parking fee. Additional car-parking in the village is very limited so don’t be late! Please do not park on the main road. You cannot park in the venue itself as spaces are limited to officials, St.John’s Ambulance and emergency vehicles and of course Andy our official timer!

Public transport: The nearest train station is Newhaven town, which has good main line links to Lewes, Brighton, Eastbourne, Seaford and also a ferry route to Dieppe in France.

Registration and race briefing: Registration is open from 06.15 to 07.20 and will be at the sailing club. Race briefing starts at 07.30 at the same location.

Bike racking: All the bike racking is numbered to correspond with individual race numbers. Please place your numbered sticker on your bike before entering transition. Helmets and bikes need to meet BTA standards.
Visit www.britishtriathlon.org for the rules. Please keep your area tidy.

Swim: Link: http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/united-kingdom/newhaven/434124211403529038 Long .
http://www.mapmyrun.com/route/united-kingdom/newhaven%2c-piddinghoe/842622653508 Short,
There is a gravel, unmade road between transition and the waterside. It is strongly recommended that you leave some foot wear on the grass area at the edge of the waterside, between the swim exit and the clubhouse.
No diving is allowed at anytime. You will be disqualified (DQd) if you do. The longer race is over 1.2km of open-water swimming. Wetsuits are likely to be compulsory, as is the wearing of the coloured swim hat that you will be provided with.
The water is brackish and the depth varies from a few feet to over 20 feet. Start behind the pond side marker (we will point this out on the day.) (Each wave will be allowed a few minutes in the water to get a quick warm up.)
The swim starts in 5 waves. The first wave starts at 07.40 hours, and then next 5 minutes later. We will have a maximum of two waves in the water at anyone time, so times will vary for the subsequent waves.
Wave 1: Male Long
Wave 2: Male Short
Wave 3: Female Long
Wave 4: Female Short
Wave 5: 999 & selected others (blue swim hats).

If we have more demand for a particular distance, we may amend the above to reflex this. Maximum of 40 swimmers per wave.
The route is anti-clockwise over two laps for the long course and one lap for the shorter. Keep the turn-buoys and the bird island on your left hand side at all times as going on the inside of a turn-buoy will result in a DQ.
We’ll let you finish the event, but you will not show on the results. At the end of the swim, the exit is marked by giant “LIONS” feather banners. Caution! The exit ramp will be slippery and your blood will flow out of your head and upper-body towards your legs, so be aware that you may feel a bit unease on your feet.
Additional safety information: Each wave will have lead and a tail-end canoeist to hopefully keep you on course! A recovery vessel and beach lifeguards will also be available if any swimmer gets in trouble. If you do find yourself in need of assistance and if you can, roll onto your back and raise/wave one arm. For this reason backstroke is not permitted! There waterside has many shallow banked sides, so you can exit at a variety of points on route if you cannot continue for any reason. Once you have had assistance or left the swim under your own accord, then it is game over and you will not be allowed to continue.

T1: Once out of the water, please leave your swim hat in the buckets provided, as we count these to make sure that everyone is safely out after each particular wave.
There is a long run to the transition area in the adjacent field. Follow the carpets to get there, not forgetting your footwear if you brought some down.
Please do not discard wetsuits all over the place and keep your area tidy. Put on your cycle hat and fasten it before removing your bike (see BTF rules). Ensure your race number is on your back so we can record your time when you start the cycle section. The mounting point is about 100m from T1 and will be visibly marked out, so you will need to push your bike for a while across a grass field before cycling. The mount area will be marshalled. Be aware that if you are in a later wave then you may have cyclists coming towards you to.

Bike route: http://www.mapmyrun.com/ride/united-kingdom/-lake/643795635169
Is an out & back course over undulating terrain. The longer race is over two laps and the shorter race being over one lap. Mount on the road heading towards Newhaven.
At the far junction you will be turning right towards Lewes. The Road Traffic Act (RTA) will apply to you. Failure to follow the RTA may result in a DQ. The Marshal will be at the joining point to tell you when to turn right onto the road and to assist with traffic, so be prepared to put your foot down and wait. Our G.P.Tri’ feather flags will mark out this section. The road you are joining is locally referred to as the C7 and is the back road from Newhaven to Lewes, via the villages of Rodmell and Kingston. Stay on this road until you get to the Stanley Turner Lewes Rugby & Cricket ground turnaround point. A police officer will be here to help you turn right and start back along the route you have just done. Ignore the first road into Piddinghoe village and keep cycling back to where the Marshal is located. Turn left at the triangle junction, it will be sign-posted. At this point the shorter race will turn left to go back to transition, the longer race will turn right to start lap 2.
Be aware of other cyclists coming towards you that are just starting the bike course as well as village traffic.
It is your responsibility to count your laps and to listen to directions given during the briefing.

T2: Slow down before going into the dismount area. Dismount between the cones before entering transition and be on the look out as others as they maybe just starting out on the bike and run routes. Leg it back to across the field, taking care if wearing cycling shoes. DO NOT REMOVE YOUR HELMET UNTIL YOU HAVE SAFELY RACKED YOUR BIKE. Please wear your race number on your front so we can record your race time when you start and during the run section.

Run: http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/united-kingdom/newhaven/297185763369
The run route is 1 lap for the shorter race and two laps for the longer race and is clockwise in direction on off-road public footpaths. The exit of T2 is at the opposite end of the transition area to the bike exit. Head back towards the pond, but stay on the grass/gravel hedge-rowed track (you’ll see arrows and the back of the finish sign). At the end, take a left onto the footpath, running along the lower path. The pond will be on your left hand side. Follow the direction arrows to the turn around point, which is the steep narrow path the goes to the upper bank (slippery if wet!). Follow the course of the river Ouse towards Newhaven (no swimming!). This track is narrow, so if someone is going at a greater pace than you, please allow them past. Towards the end of the upper bank you will see arrows pointing for you to drop down to a gravel track (again, slippery if wet). Double back on yourself towards Piddinghoe. If you end up on tarmac, you have gone wrong! A water station is located near the end of the lap as well as the chance to collect your end of lap band. The short race will turn left at this point and go back to the finish area. The longer race competitors will ignore this turn and go straight on instead, repeating the above. After the second lap come in to the finish. Please discard cups as near to the water point or finish area as possible, keeping Britain tidy as well as helping out the local wildlife.

Finish: Congratulations, you made it! Please be aware that if cyclists are still out on the road, you cannot leave…….cue evil laughter!

Miscellaneous: The sailing club building does not open until 7am. Showers and toilets are available within this building after 7am. Additional toilets will be located in the car-park.
