Serpentine @ National Club Relay Triathlon Championships Tweet
If you haven't ever raced at the Club Relays, you really have missed out. One of the most exhilarating and fun events on the UK tri calendar, the Club Relays revolve around teams of four using a tagging format where everyone swims, everyone bikes and everyone runs in race that looks like a mixture between competition and chaos.
Originally started by One Step Beyond in 1991, the Relays really are the focal point as well as the vocal point of the season for many teams who look to a real club event to bring them together and where camaraderie and teamwork really pay off.
The race has a unique format with teams of 4 taking it in turns to complete each leg. When all 4 have completed the 400m swim, they then move to a 15k bike and finish with a 5k run. It's the location and atmosphere that really make this race: you can see the whole swim, most of the bike and much of the run from the stands.
Serpentine have 4 male teams, 2 female teams and 3 mixed teams entered.
This year due to high demand, there is an extra day for the event with an extra wave on the Sunday morning. The mixed teams race Saturday morning, the women race Saturday afternoon and the men on Sunday morning so you have a whole weekend of great racing and spectating while you soak up a really quite special atmosphere. The race has a later start than usual for triathlon and although possible to travel from London that morning, cheap and easy accommodation is available at the centre's campsite which works out as a focal point for triathletes across the country at the after race party.
Sign up here to get a place on one of our teams. Each team costs £160 but Serpentine are funding half of this cost so you only need to pay £20 (non-refundable). Serpentine will also pay the campsite fees for every member who races on a team.
Non BTF members must pay an extra £5 for a day license. This is
payable now and is non-refundable. BTF members must produce their
membership card on the day or pay for a day license.
Transport is not provided by the club: you must make your own way to Holme
Pierrepont. Most Serpies will be camping on Friday night and we usually
have a BBQ on Saturday after the race. Use MyEvents to find car shares.
