ENTRY LIMIT
4 mile race – 30 swimmers

THE COURSE
Will be a straight course through the dock system, swimming in an anti-clockwise direction from Salthouse Dock, under the road bridge at its South Eastern end, through Wapping Basin and then to Wapping Dock. Proceed through Wapping Dock and on under the Queen’s Wharf road bridge into the entrance to Queen’s Dock. Swimmers should pass the turning buoy in Queen’s Dock on their left. They will then make their return journey back through the system into Salthouse Dock, keeping to the right hand side as they enter the dock. Swimmers keep to the right hand side until the white turning buoy in the corner of Salthouse dock; swimmers will pass this on their left. Swimmers should continue towards the slipway and pass the pontoon calling out their number as they pass the timekeepers, prior to commencement of the next lap.

One circuit of the course is 1 mile, therefore the 4 mile event is 4 circuits.

FINISH
To finish, swimmers must touch the pontoon and call out their number to the timekeepers and finishing judge. Swimmers should not leave the water until told to do so.

CHAMPIONSHIPS
Senior Ladies, Senior Gents 4 mile Freestyle and Breaststroke Championships.
Veterans Trophies will be awarded to the first veteran in both the Ladies and Gents Championships.

The first swimmer to complete the course in each event will be the Championship winner. If this happens to be a breaststroke swimmer then the Championship Trophy and the Breaststroke Trophy will be awarded to that swimmer.

ENTRY CONDITIONS
1. The Championships are swum under B.L.D.S.A. rules (no wetsuits). Breaststroke swimmers must wear PINK caps, freestyle swimmers any colour but Pink or white.
2. That you will declare that if you enter the swim whilst pregnant, you will inform the swim secretary at the earliest possible opportunity, and will provide him/her with a letter from a doctor or midwife confirming your suitability to enter the event. You understand that entry may be refused to pregnant swimmers at the discretion of the swim secretary, following a risk assessment.

THE PRESENTATIONTrophies and certificates will be presented at the “The Blue Bar” Edward Pavilion, Albert Dock Liverpool L3 4AB (or another venue local to the dock). A buffet meal, included in the entrance fee, will be provided here for swimmers. Supporters are welcome to join us for the presentation, where they can purchase food from the bar if required.

HOW TO GET THERE
Head towards Liverpool City Centre. Albert Dock is well signposted and can be found to the south east of the Liver Building, easily identifiable by its twin clock towers, which are surmounted by the Liver Birds. Salthouse Dock is the large outer dock with the slipway close to the Granada TV building.
Parking in the location of the swim i.e., adjacent to Salthouse Dock and in the King’s Dock is pay and display. All car parking in the area of the swim will require payment. From King’s Dock the access to the swim is a short walk over the footbridge keeping the main Albert Dock buildings on your left until you see the slipway. PARKING ON THE SLIPWAY IS NOT ALLOWED.

MAIN POINTS
1. The Club has to register the number of swimmers using the facility for licensing purposes with the relevant authorities. Avoid disappointment apply early.
2. Whilst the Championships are swum under B.L.D.S.A. rules, you do not have to be a member of the B.L.D.S.A. to compete in them.
3. Of more relevance to swimmers, the water in the dock complex provides a surprisingly clean environment in which to race, being home to a range of saltwater fauna.

GENERAL INFORMATION
For those of you who have not been to the Albert Dock, the venue is unique for the sport. Being a major tourist attraction, the Dock is home to museums, floating exhibits, an art gallery and a host of bars and shops, all you might need for a family day out. Liverpool city centre is a relatively short walk away, with two contrasting 20th century cathedrals close by, not forgetting the Mersey ferries from the Pier Head.
