Guernsey Novice Triathlon

Description
The Guernsey Novice Triathlon will be held at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre in St Peter Port, and consists of a 400m (16 lengths) swim, 8 mile cycle, and a 2 mile run. Distances for the cycle and run are approximate. The event will also incorporate a team relay aimed at corporate, school or family and other composite teams. This race is designed to be a low-key but fun introduction to triathlon and entrants with 2 years triathlon experience or less are very welcome. When entering, estimated swim times should be as accurate as possible as this time will be used to ensure swimmers sharing a lane are matched by ability. Juniors are those aged between 14 and 21 on race day.

Swim
Swimming in the relative warmth of the Beau Sejour leisure centre competitors complete 400 metres (16 lengths) in the pool before exiting the pool and heading into the “transition area”. In transition area competitors change in preparation for the next discipline, the cycle. The amount of time spent getting dry and dressed is up to you, but remember that the clock is still running!

Bike
The cycle ride takes competitors down to the eastern seafront, along Belle Greve bay to St Sampsons and out to Bordeaux. A dead turn at Bordeaux indicates the half-way point. The return leg includes the only (and unavoidable considering the location of Beau Sejour) hill when cyclists climb Rouge Rue in the last half mile of the bike leg. Please note that cycles must be in a roadworthy condition and a bike helmet (British safety standard approved) must be worn at all times during the cycle leg.

Run
After another transition competitors take to the paths around Cambridge Park to complete three well marked laps of the run route and the big finish.

Registration
All competitors must register by 7:30am on the morning of the race. The race starts at 8am with the first swim wave, however dependent on estimated swimming time and entry numbers, the last wave may start as late as 8:45am.
