Organiser's Description

Welcome to the Heymooth Tae Hill & Back, a brilliant new charity Sportif organised by the Rotary Club of Eyemouth & District working in partnership with Malawi Fruits.  We are offering a memorable and enjoyable cycling challenge in some of Scotland's best scenery and quietest roads, while raising funds to support local Eyemouth charities, Prostate Scotland and the international charity Malawi Fruits.  The beautiful and historical village of Eyemouth – locally known as Heymooth – is the start point for two great routes:

·       Heymooth Gowkie Cuts is a 40 mile route mixing undulating country roads with a couple of decent climbs which bring the reward of some amazing views. Ideal for less experienced riders or those who would not be able to complete the longer route in eight hours or  less.

·       Heymooth Mony-Nutter is a whole different proposition. 68.5 miles and 1,797 metres of climbing makes this a serious challenge.

So the real question is: are you a Gowkie Cutter or a Mony Nutter?!

Both routes start and finish at Eyemouth High School where there is loads of free parking. Riders can start anytime between 8am and 10am and there will be a sweep vehicle behind the last riders and you need to plan your start time to be finished by 5pm at the latest.

Malawi Fruits has over 10 year’s experience of running friendly and challenging sportifs and all events feature electronic chip timing, friendly volunteers,  rescue vehicles and great food stops. We ask for a donation of £40  for the charities, rather than an entry fee and because the proceeds go to charity, if you are able to tick the box for gift aid on the entry form then this is a great additional benefit.  Participants may choose to raise additional funds through sponsorship if they wish but this is not required.

Our routes take in some of the Border’s best scenery and there are loads of great climbs, especially on the Mony-Nutter. Whatever route you choose you will be sustained by great sandwiches and home baking provided by our team at the feed stations as well as bananas and health bars for that added sustenance

Heymooth Tae Hill & Back is linked with the Cairn o' Mount Challenge (www.ridingforgood.uk), the Tayside Challenge, the Ayrshire Alps and the well-established Highland Perthshire Challenge so why not consider entering one or more of those  too! The events have the same ethos and are a great warm up for Heymooth in September.
